An audience was held
this morning by Judge Castrillo, the
judge of the Intermediate Phase,
concerning a legal matter that required
the attention of all the parties. Yet
the significant nature of what occurred
today has nothing to do with the reason
for that meeting.
Of more significance was the fact that
the Judge had before him the Habeas
Corpus he received yesterday from the
Constitutional Court.
We can report to you the following:
First, the Judge gave his assurance that
he would promptly respond to the Habeas
Corpus. In addition, he indicated that
his resolution to finally end the
Intermediate Phase would be issued by
Wednesday of next week, at the latest.
And finally, he gave the Defense his
word that he would personally seek to
obtain as early a trial date as
possible.
We are pleased about these three
accomplishments, although tempered by
our experience.
Once the Judge of the Intermediate Phase
forwards the case file, it is possible
that it could take up to one month for
the date of the Public Trial to even be
assigned. Therefore, as we stand on the
brink of possibly achieving our
immediate goal to finally bring the
Intermediate Phase to its conclusion, we
recognize that much more patience will
be required of us to see this thing
through.
Thank you.
