During the past couple
of days, there has been some discussion
about whether this or any other message
is or is not from Luis Enrique. We
would like to make several commentaries
concerning this topic.
Through our very long and trying wait,
we have been able to develop very
reliable sources, and through them, we
were able to verify that LEV's message
is indeed authentic. We must be clear:
We have no idea where Luis Enrique
Villalobos is located, and we don't care
to know. Neither do we take part in any
cover up or conspire to hide anyone, but
we do protect the identity of our
sources.
Since an important part of our function
is reporting factual information, we
have taken it upon ourselves to observe
the same confidentiality protection for
our sources as that of a reporter. It
is the only way we can continue to
guarantee our sources of information in
the future, and we do not intend on
disclosing them to anyone, at least not
until this is over and we have all
settled with Luis Enrique.
Only a trusted confidant or the
individual himself can authenticate the
one responsible for a message. A
specialist can authenticate a signature,
and perhaps the use of individual words
or terminology within a message, but a
specialist cannot authenticate the
source responsible for a message.
Therefore, trying to figure out what
words LEV used to use, or uses, or never
used, or what sounds like him, or
doesn't, or anything else for that
matter, is a waste of time... A message
can be written with the assistance of a
lawyer, edited, added or deleted,
depending on various legal concerns.
What is important, the only thing that
really matters, is verification of the
authenticity of the message and its
contents.
This signed message was picked up at a
designated time and place, and later
authenticated by our sources as a
statement from Luis Enrique. It is from
him. In fact, it seems quite possible
that this particular message has more
from Enrique himself, actually penned by
him, than other statements received that
quite possibly had more lawyer influence
than this one. That is not to imply
that lawyer influence makes it less of a
message from him... it doesn't...
particularly in the present situation of
both Villalobos brothers.
In the message we notice that Luis
Enrique sees this case as the government
against both he and his brother. As far
as he's concerned, there is no I or he,
only we, and that is how he refers to
the aspects of the case. He doesn't
care how technically correct he is, he
is speaking from a family perspective.
That's how he sees it. In his mind,
they will be defending themselves in
that courtroom, both he and his brother
Osvaldo. In fact we know that only
Osvaldo will be officially on trial, but
that is not where Enrique is coming from
in his message.
Finally, we would like to say a few
words about Jose Miguel Villalobos,
since perhaps it has been a while that
we made any public statements concerning
his effort for UCCR. In short, we could
not ask for a wiser, more patient
advocate. This is not an easy case to
be associated with, particularly a man
who has presidential aspirations, yet he
has stood by us through thick and thin,
when others might have long abandoned
our cause. He has written very
important analytical and legal documents
for our cause, has been a respected
spokesperson, a trusted confidant and
advisor, and this is the ultimate
clincher: He will do an excellent job
for us in that courtroom, and that's the
beginning and the end and everything in
between.
