Summary Report on
Planning Session
Held on September
11, 2006
The
planning session between the parties in the
case was held this morning as scheduled,
meeting together for a little over an hour.
Two of
the three judges were present. They were,
the Hon. Manuel Rojas Salas, and Juez Juan
Carlos Perez Murillo. The third judge of
the tribunal, Juez Isabel Porroz Porroz,
could not attend but sent a representative
from her office.
The new
defense lawyers were present as well as
Fiscal Walter Espinoza.
Most
noteworthy was that only about 10 or so
litigant lawyers showed up. The reason for
the low turnout would only be speculation on
our part. Attendance at today's planning
session was not an absolute requirement, but
it is customarily respected by lawyers.
The
judges indicated a desire to hold the trial
at the same auditorium where today's meeting
took place, but in lieu of today's low
attendance, indicated this would be changed
if less than the originally filed number of
litigants showed up for the trial.
The
judges also announced they would request
that a fourth "alternate" judge be assigned
to the case to avert any disruption to the
proceedings in the case of illness or
emergency of one of the judges during the
course of a possibly lengthy trial.
Dates
and trial schedules were set, and the
tribunal emphasized the importance of
punctuality to the lawyers present.
The
trial will commence on February 5, 2007,
8:00 A.M.
Thursday, 26. October 2006
